Trained in the management of skin cancer, we offer complete care, from skin cancer detection and diagnosis to advanced treatments and surgery by our team of qualified specialists, doctors and nurses. Whether you’re trying to ensure you never have to go through skin cancer or are dealing with the consequences of younger years spent a lot outdoors, we’re here to help.
Our Skin Cancer Doctors offer a comprehensive, full body assessment to identify any indicators of skin cancer that may need further analysis.
A Skin Cancer Doctor is a medical doctor who has completed 5 years of medical school and obtained a medical degree (MBChB). They have then undergone at least another 4 years of specialist GP training, followed by further training in skin cancer medicine, surgery and dermatology. They are trained to diagnose skin cancers and other skin conditions using a dermatoscope which is a handheld device to visualise the skin’s structures and patterns and are qualified to perform procedures such as skin biopsies, excisions, and prescribe medications.
Our Nurse Dermoscopists can perform either a comprehensive, full body assessment to identify any indicators of skin cancer that may need further analysis, or a Spot Check of 1 mole or spot that is of particular concern to the patient.
A Nurse Dermoscopist is a registered nurse (RN) who has undergone additional training and certification in dermoscopy, which is a technique used for examining the skin at a magnified level. Dermoscopy involves using a handheld device called a dermatoscope to visualise the skin’s structures and patterns. They are trained to recognise various skin patterns and assist in differentiating benign lesions from potentially malignant ones. Nurse Dermoscopists do not perform surgical procedures or prescribe medications but work as part of a collaborative team with Skin Cancer Doctors and dermatologists and can refer on if further analysis or treatment is required.
We accept claims from all health insurance companies, but we recommend you check your benefits and level of cover to ensure you are covered prior to your appointment with us.
SOUTHERN CROSS HEALTH INSURANCE
Many of our doctors are Southern Cross Affiliated Providers. This means that you may be able to claim up to the full cost of your consultation and treatment and we can process the claim on your behalf. If there are no Affiliated Providers available for some time and you would like to be seen sooner, you can still book an appointment with one of our other doctors and, if your policy provides the relevant cover, you can claim back directly with Southern Cross.
nib HEALTH INSURANCE
We are a First Choice Provider on the nib Health Insurance Network. If your policy provides the relevant cover, you’re able to have a skin cancer consultation with any of our Skin Cancer Doctors or Nurse Dermoscopists. Please just be sure to check your benefits and level of cover prior to your appointment.
