Profhilo® is made of a high concentration of a carbohydrate called hyaluron that is naturally present in the skin but declines with age. Profhilo® has a unique formulation which is free of additives. It is injected just beneath the skin at precise points. Its consistency is such that allows it to evenly spread through the skin tissues and underlying structures forming a hydrating layer as well as stimulating cell production including collagen and elastin.
Profhilo® is used to treat skin laxity and to help remodel ageing, sagging and crepey skin. It hydrates the skin and is shown to have a stimulatory effect on the cells producing collagen and elastin to help tighten and lift the skin and improve skin quality to give it a more youthful look. The results of Profhilo® treatments can last up to 6-9 months, however, this may vary by patient and depends on skin type and age.
The treatment involves placing the product under the skin using a fine needle at points which are chosen to ensure safety and maximise the lifting action of the product. Profhilo® spreads evenly throughout the surrounding tissues to hydrate and stimulate the collagen and elastin production.
For a result, you are required to have 2 treatments 4-6 weeks apart.
After a 6 to 9-month period or when you begin to see the treatment’s effects wearing away, that you can top up treatments if you wish to continue.
The Profhilo® treatment can work independently as a treatment on its own or in combination with other cosmetic treatments.
Caution is needed in those with autoimmune disorders.
You can use Profhilo® with other cosmetic treatments, but we advise no botulinum toxin for two weeks prior. No microdermabrasion, chemical peel, IPL: 1–2 weeks pre or post treatment. Avoid fractional resurfacing 4 weeks pre and post Profhilo® treatment.
This treatment is relatively unproblematic and well tolerated. Mild swelling, a raised lump, bruising and tenderness at the injection site can occur. The lumps usually resolve over hours or a few days but the injection point on the cheek bone may disappear more slowly than the others (up to 1 week). Bruising is more common those taking aspirin, anti-inflammatories, garlic, and fish oil. Bruising is not harmful, but can be embarrassing, and can be covered with makeup while fading over 1-3 weeks.
What are the rare side effects?
Allergy is unlikely as Profhilo is free from synthetic chemicals, but it is still a possibility and may result in swelling redness or hard lumps. This is treated by dissolving the Profhilo with an enzyme. As the skin barrier is breached during placement, there is a rare risk of infection which may require antibiotics. It is extremely unlikely that vascular occlusion will occur due to the placement sites of the product. However, it remains a possibility that Profhilo may inadvertently enter a vessel which can cause skin damage and scarring unless treated by dissolving enzyme which removes all filler. With other fillers there have been extremely rare reports of blindness or stroke, with treatment of the nose and between the eyes carrying a higher risk and this remains a possible risk with this treatment
