Dr Monique Mackenzie is a consultant dermatologist and dermatologic surgeon specialising in the management of complex skin conditions and skin cancer surgery and prevention. She obtained her medical degree at the University of Otago and completed her fellowship with the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners in 2012.
Following a short period working for Skin Institute Queenstown she followed her passion for Dermatology and left to complete a further seven years of specialist training in New Zealand, Brisbane, Australia and University Hospitals of Birmingham, United Kingdom. She now returns as New Zealand’s first Māori Dermatologist and returning Consultant Dermatologist to Skin Institute.
Monique is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and New Zealand Dermatological Society Incorportated (FNZDSI). She is currently on the editorial board for the Australasian Journal of Dermatology (AJD), Chair of New Zealand Dermatology Registrar Group and Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland. She holds memberships with the Australasian Society of Cosmetic and Procedural Dermatologists (ASCPD), European Academy of Dermatology and Venerology (EADVI) and faculty member of Global Indigenous Skin Summit (GISS).
She frequently speaks on skin cancer prevention as well as common skin conditions such as acne, rosacea, skin aging and eczema featuring in VIVA, MiNDFOOD magazines and on MediaWorks radio. She has also provided expert advice for L’Oreal and AbbVie pharmaceuticals.
She manages a wide range of skin, hair and nail conditions across all skin types and ethnicities including acne, alopecia (hair loss), keloid scars, melasma, rosacea, psoriasis and eczema as well as more complex skin diseases and skin cancer treatments often requiring expert and multidisciplinary management. Monique’s professionalism and enthusiasm are notable and appreciated by her patients across the country.
