Sun avoidance is crucial to avoiding sun damage. When sun exposure is unavoidable, regular application of a high SPF (more than SPF30) sunscreen will provide protection against UV radiation. For existing sun damage, treatments are available to help restore skin’s vitality and function. The two major treatment options available include:
Topical Therapy – daily use of vitamins A, B3 & C, alpha-hydroxy acids and moisturisers. Facial peels can also have a rejuvenating effect.
Laser Therapies – have proven extremely beneficial for sun damage. These include Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), Fractional Laser Resurfacing and Photodynamic Therapy. Depending on your skin condition and need, your consulting Appearance Medicine Nurse will advise which treatment is right for you.
If you have concerns about one particular lesion, we offer a Spot Check. Or if you are concerned about several moles or lesions on your skin, as a result of being in the sun, we recommend you book in for a Full Body Skin Cancer Consultation.
The team will be able to assist you with a booking at your nearest Skin Institute clinic offering treatments to effectively treat sun damage.
