Dermagun - dermal restructuring

Dermagun is an innovative skin enhancing treatment that can noticeably improve aged, damaged and dehydrated skin types. Dermagun uses a sophisticated injection gun to deliver a nourishing substance called Teosyal Redensity directly into the top layer of the skin. Teosyal is a powerfully hydrating hyaluronic acid supplemented with vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidant factors to improve skin hydration, boost collagen production and assist the skin’s resistance to UV damage.

What’s so great about the Skin Institute’s multi-disciplinary approach is that we can offer patients the whole package – from education, to treatment, to follow up care.

What is Dermagun?

Dermagun is a game-changing device, designed to deliver a high concentration of hyaluronic acid and dermal restructuring complex to skin, as precisely and effectively as possible. The device uses multiple fine needles to apply the hyaluronic acid evenly, to a uniform depth, to the dermal layer of the skin. The multi-needles have a double benefit of stimulating collagen production while also delivering nourishing substances at exactly the right level in the skin.  Dermagun uses a unique suction capability to stabilise the skin which allows the needles to precisely deliver the Teosyal to the correct layer of the skin and helps to reduce discomfort.  It is ideal as part of an on-going treatment for cutaneous ageing or as a one-off to instantly repair and rehydrate skin.

What can Dermagun do for me?

Dermagun is designed to improve skin elasticity, hydration, texture and generally make your skin more radiant. Patients have reported their skin feeling firmer and smoother.  Evidence has shown increased density of the dermis as a result of treatment.  It can assist with cell regeneration, tissue restructuring and anti-oxidant protection.   Studies also show the antioxidant ingredients assist the skin to become more resistant to damage when exposed to UV Rays, which is attractive to New Zealand patients in a high UV environment.  Due to it’s high precision it benefits face, neck, hands, décolletage and the delicate skin under the eyes.

Like all our treatments, Dermagundelivers subtle, natural-looking results.  Skin Institute favours an approach that leaves our patients looking and feeling significantly better, without any visible signs of what would be considered as having ‘work’.

Is Dermagun suitable for me?

Dermagun is suitable for the majority of patients. However, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, we advise against it, as we do with many of our cosmetic medicine treatments.  Dermagun is most effective as three initial treatments, to be followed by six to 12 month top-up sessions, depending on how long results last.  Book a 45 – minute consultation with a specialist nurses to determine whether Dermagun is the right treatment for any interested individuals.

How much downtime is there after treatment?

Dermagun is a quick, minimally – invasive procedure, so you’re likely to have little downtime.  You may notice some redness and blotchiness immediately after the treatment, but this will usually disappear within 24 hours.  Minor bruising and small lumps of product under the skin can occur, but generally resolve within a couple of days.  Between treatments, we recommend that you use Teoxane Deep Repair Balm for at least 3-5 days, to protect the skin and help the active ingredients of the Dermagun treatment work effectively.

Does it hurt?

Dermagun has been designed to speed up treatment time and decrease pain, but there will be some stinging during the procedure. At Skin Institute, we apply a numbing cream to the area being treated to help minimise sensation.  Although the devise uses multiple fine needles simultaneously, you will not be able to feel each individual point, so it tends to feel less painful than single need treatments. Dermagun also applies suction to the skin before each injection, which helps to decrease discomfort and assures a uniform injection depth.
