Originally hailing from beautiful Ottawa in Canada, Joanne has been nursing in New Zealand since 2013.

Joanne graduated with a diploma in Nursing in 2004 then went on to gain her post-graduate diploma in Theatre nursing in 2007. She then upgraded her qualifications to a bachelor’s degree of Nursing with High Distinction from the University of Queensland (Brisbane, Australia) in 2011 with the intent to further her academic career and nursing knowledge base. Upon arrival in Auckland, she continued with her post-graduate studies from 2013-2015 to graduate with a PGDipHSc (First Class Honours) in Advanced Nursing as a Registered Nurse First Surgical Assistant (RNFSA) with specialisations in Otorhinolaryngology (under mentorship of Dr Rajan Patel, MBChB, MRCS, MD, FRCS (ORL-HNS), FRACS (ORL-HNS) and Dr Mark Izzard, MBBS, FRACS (ORL-HNS)) and in Orthopaedics (under mentorship of Dr Kevin Karpik MBChB, FRACS). Upon graduation in 2015, Joanne joined the New Zealand Transplant and Retrieval team as an RNFSA.

Joanne joined Skin Institute in 2018 as the Clinical Nurse Manager of the Remuera team. Wanting to continue to expand her knowledge base, Joanne became interested in skin cancer medicine and dermoscopy and began mentoring with Dr Marcus Platts-Mills MBChB, Dip Derm. Joanne completed her Certificate of Dermoscopy with the Skin Cancer College of Australasia in May 2019.

Joanne continues her work with the New Zealand Transplant and Retrieval team as an RNFSA, as well as is a guest expert clinical examiner at the University of Auckland for the Registered Nurse First Surgical Assistant program, as part of the Post Graduate Nursing Faculty.

Fluent in both French and English, Joanne is warm, friendly and welcoming. She is dedicated to her patients and their skin health. She believes in a holistic approach to skin health and works closely with all members of the Skin Institute team, including our veins, appearance medicine and surgical teams.
