What is PRP and what are the benefits?
Platelet Rich Plasma Transfer (PRP) is an innovative non-surgical treatment that uses your own blood resources – making for a minimally invasive, but effective way to treat your skin.
The extraction of plasma from your red blood cells delivered concentrated platelets and growth factors, which are regenerative and rich healing substances.
PRP is becoming increasingly popular due to its natural approach to rejuvenating skin and counteracting the signs of ageing.
This two-hour, in-clinic treatment uses your body's own natural resources to improve the tone of your skin, and enhance radiance and luminosity.
What to expect during your PRP treatment
Client and facial assessment
PRP is an effective treatment for anyone looking for a natural alternative to improve radiance of the skin. Suitable candidates for PRP are generally those who are in good health, to ensure that the platelet cells are in optimal condition. The best candidates are those who are non-smokers, have a balanced nutritional diet and lead a healthy lifestyle.
Using your own resources
About 10-20mls of blood will be taken, in the same way it would for any normal blood test. The blood is then spun in a centrifuge machine for 10 minutes. This process separates out the plasma (which contains a high concentration of platelets) from your red blood cells. Combined with the time the blood spends in the centrifuge and the process of injecting the plasma back into the specific areas of your face, the whole process will take about 2 hours. Some clients prefer to have a topical numbing cream applied, which is done about 20-30 mins before the treatment. This will help reduce any pain in the injecting sites for the majority of clients.
The concentrated platelets are then injected into the areas of concern. The platelets are rich in growth factors, which enhance the body’s natural healing capabilities to repair and renew your skin and the counteract the signs of ageing. The plasma that’s injected into the areas of concern, has a high concentration of platelets and growth factors which are regenerative and healing substances that contribute to youthful, glowing skin. Depending on your individual needs, our general recommendation is three (3) treatments six (6) weeks apart for optimal rejuvenation. Followed up with maintenance treatments every 1-2 years.
You will start to see results within the first week, but optimal results will take up to three - six months from your final treatment to really shine through. This gradual process is caused by the constant regeneration of collagen and hyaluronic acid, stimulated by the treatment. We recommend the use of a high quality facial sunscreen with zinc oxide, in conjunction with a individually recommended serum after your treatment, this will help boost results and nurture your skin while helping defend your skin against environmental stressors. Side effects from the treatment are tolerable – you may experience slight redness and some swelling, and bruising.
