Broken blood vessels

Broken vessels (telangiectasia rosacea) are unsightly and typically occur around the nose and mouth. These are often caused by anything from excessive sun exposure to genetics. Broken vessels can become more noticeable with age because your skin gets thinner.

Treatment

The most effective treatment to remove visible blood vessels is Intense Pulsed Light or IPL. IPL is a laser skin rejuvenation procedure that is most commonly used to treat broken vessels on the face, neck, chest and hands. It can dramatically reduce the appearance of broken vessels as well as improving skin tone and texture.

An IPL treatment session lasts between 15-45 minutes, with a follow up after 3-6 weeks. The treatment is like being ‘flicked with a rubber band’. After treatment, some broken vessels will have reduced in size, some will have disappeared and any areas of brown pigmentation may initially darken, and then lighten as the pigmentation sloughs off in 7-14 days. Initial surrounding redness is common due to increased blood flow following the procedure.
