Chin/Neck LipoSelection® Submental LipoSelection®
A surgical technique to improve the neckline by removing fatty deposits, often performed in conjunction with neck, facelift and chin implant surgery.
How does it work?
A special solution is injected into the chin and neck area to start the process. Next a tube is inserted and the surgeon carefully breaks down unwanted fat deposits. The excess fat is removed with a micro high-pressure vacuum, leaving skin, muscles and other vital structures intact.
What can be achieved?
As aging progresses, many people develop fat deposits around their chin and neck independent of their weight. This may be more apparent as the skin loses elasticity and begins to sag. Chin/neck liposuction is not an alternative to weight loss but can remove stubborn fat deposits that do not respond to diet and exercise. A well-planned contouring procedure will leave a more defined side profile and a visually fresher look.
Treatment info
The typical procedure is a day stay and performed under intravenous sedation. The procedure will take approximately 60 minutes.
After treatment
An elastic compression garment is worn for 24 hours per day during the first week and 12 hours per day in the second and third week. The longer the garment is worn, the better the compression and contouring that is achieved. There will be swelling and sometimes bruising. It is strongly recommended to sleep propped up to aid in the reduction of swelling. A soft diet is recommended as the lower jaw and neck may be tender for a few days.
Most patients are seen the next day, when the incision lines are redressed. 24 hours after the procedure, patients can remove their garment to wash their hair and apply the prescribed antibiotic ointment. It is important to avoid any bending over, alcohol consumption and vigorous activity for a week.
By the end of the second week most of the bruising will have disappeared, sutures will have dissolved and some normal activities including non-strenuous lower body work-outs can
be resumed.
By one month all exercise can be resumed. The healing process will be well under way. There may be some tingling as numbness around the chin area subsides, although numbness may persist for several months.
