Surgery

Surgical (invasive) procedures from Skin Institute NZ

After trying temporary, non invasive procedures such as botox or fillers, some patients decide that they would like to make a more lasting change. This usually requires some form of surgery or intervention that we classify as an invasive procedure.

Invasive procedures, as the name suggests, are a little more involved and often require some form of anaesthetic. The effects are usually permanent and often performed under local anaesthetic.

It is obviously a big decision to take and one not to be made lightly. Often our patients are well know to us and this process is part of a continuum, but some patients may be thinking of surgery for the first time.

The Skin Institute has a 4 step process to ensuring a safe and successful journey through the process.

  • Free cosmetic consultation with a nurse practitioner to explore possibilities and gather information.
  • Cosmetic consultation with one of our experienced surgeons to assess correct type and suitability of the patient for the procedure. The patient is then given further information and time to consider options. Photographs are taken for discussion at next consultation.
  • Follow-up consultation to hear patient thoughts, answer questions, allay fears and discuss moving towards treatment phase.
  • Assessment of general health and medical status, signing of consent forms, planning timing and post operative care.

Read more about the process at our patient information section in the Resources section or browse our list of procedures on the left to find out more.
