What causes wrinkles?

Wrinkles occur due to repetitive contraction of facial muscles that in turn break down your natural collagen and elastin. When the collagen and elastin is broken down, there is nothing under that area of skin to keep it smooth.

How does Botox® work?

Botox® works on the area treated by relaxing the facial muscles so you cannot contract them to form lines. It is injected into the muscle and targets Acetylcholine, the chemical carrying a message from the brain to the nerves located in that muscle. The messages are blocked so the muscle does not contract.

What are the side effects of Botox®?

The short term side effects associated with Botox® are swelling, redness, tenderness, slight headache and bruising at the injection site. There is also the risk of a droopy eyelid (Ptosis) when treating areas such as frown, crow’s feet or brow lift. In rare cases there have also been reports of nausea, flu symptoms, muscles weakness and ‘pins and needles’.

When will I see the results?

After your Botox® treatment you should start to see / feel the effect over the next 3 - 14 days. In some cases people experience results earlier than this but on average most people notice the effect after 8 days.

How long will my treatment last for?

Most people start to notice their lines coming back after 3 months. Without repeated treatment your lines will gradually return to their pre-treatment appearance within 6 - 12 months. To maintain your smooth look we suggest you book your treatments every 4 months or once you start to notice the lines coming back.
