Dr Hans Raetz MD, MRCGP, FRNZCGP, FNZCAM
Hans graduated from Essen Medical School in Germany in 1991 and commenced surgical training in traumatology. After moving to Great Britain in 1995 he continued his surgical training in the North-East Surgical Rotation and, following his qualification as MRCGP in 1998 the family moved again, this time to Queenstown, New Zealand.
He then worked as a GP at Queenstown Medical Centre and was awarded fellowship of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners in 2005.
After taking an interest in Appearance Medicine and setting up Central Otago’s only Cosmetic Medicine Clinic he gained Fellowship of the New Zealand College of Appearance Medicine in 2008. In 2006 he established Phlebology services in Queenstown and is now involved in the non-surgical treatment of Varicose Veins for Skin Institute. His strong interest in surgery has led to Skin Institute Queenstown becoming the multidisciplinary centre for Skin Cancer and Phlebology services in Central Otago.
Hans has always been pushing for new services and facilities in his community. After commissioning an Urgent Doctor Centre in Sunderland, England he managed the planning and construction phase for Queenstown Medical Centre in 2001 followed by the QMC Remarkables Park branch in 2005.
Since 2000 he has been a Senior Lecturer with Otago University and has been involved in the professional development of the New Zealand Royal College of GPs and the NZ College of Appearance Medicine on Council. Both Suzy and his children hope that he will run out of puff- eventually.
